Pricing a photo for a show?

I am planning on entering some photos in the springs art show at a local college. I took them with my digital camera and turned one of the shots into black and white. This show requires that you price your shots. How do I determine a good price ?

That's actually a seemingly odd requirement for an entrance into a print competition.

Since I've never had that requirement, I can't tell you what range to price it in, however I can get some pointers into what determines the cost of a photo..

1 - Cost of materials. Your raw costs includes the cost to print it, the price of paper, cost for the frame, etc.

2 - Cost of knowledge. This includes what you think your knowledge of the subject is. It also includes the knowledge to convert the image to B&W.

3 - Cost of time. It takes time to photograph a subject and to edit it on a computer. Even someting as simple as editing a color print to b&w

Also, call ahead and see what kinda prices have been assigned in the past. Base your price on a median (this is probably the easiest and fastest)

goto deviantart.com and go under photograhy look at some of the prices there as it's an indepentant site not like getti images and the rest so the price you'll give is more acturite to your skill level

dont forget to take your time and cost into the price. how long did it take you and how much do you want to be paid per hour to create that piece. How musch did it cost you to create the photo (a portion of the what your camera cost you is included in that...materials...)

If the gallery is charging you.. price them at at least $2000.. assuming they're good
