Do you think prices of portable DVD players and digital cameras will go lower in the next 5 months than they are now (on sale for boxing day) or stay the same? They will go down. Traditionally after Christmas there is a big push as stores try to unload inventory. First quarter '07 through mid-summer would be a great time to buy about any type of electronics. Mid-summer, stores are already thinking and investing for the next Christmas. I'm noting a trend downwards in prices of digital single lens reflex (dSLR) cameras. Judging from a marketing study I've seen, the market for that type of camera will saturate next year, meaning more price drops to come. Compact digital cam prices will probably remain somewhat flat but just get more features and megapixels, as in the fast 2 years.
As far as portable DVD player prices go - that will depend on how fast the public adopts "Blue Ray" DVDs in general. I don't think the general conversion to "Blue Ray" compatible players will happen in the next five months. I'm guessing the prices will start to drop by the Christmas shopping season next year (2007), and will really plummet no later than Christmas time 2008. IMHO, of course. |
