What would you say...?

The best camera in the price range of 100$ to 200$ (viewfinder wanted). Is it good to buy a normal point and shoot digital camera to expand my skill?

Point and shoot cameras do not expand skill. They are point and shoot-they decide everything for you.

Watch ebay for a used Canon Digital Rebel (300D) It is a starter SLR camera which would be fantastic for "improving your skill." You can probably find one for $200 or maybe a little more. Just be vigilant. You need to learn about Shutter speeds and ISO settings though.

If you are really after skill and not ease-stay away from point and shoot.

Canon Powershot A560 with a USA street price of about $150.00. It was introduced in February 2007 and has 7 megapixels with a 35-140mm zoom lens. Yes, a point & shoot digital camera is terrific for learning to expand your skills and also take an online or live workshop, too.

I would say the current best value is the Canon A570 IS, which is a 7mp camera with 4x zoom and optical image stabilization. It does have an optical viewfinder, and although it's not as accurate as the LCD screen, it will save on battery life.

Anytime you can take photos and get instant feedback to adjust, it will expand your skill--as long as the camera is capable of making adjustments to ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. The Canon A570 IS does have shutter speed preferred, aperture preferred, and full-manual control, so you can make the necessary adjustments.

The difference between an SLR and one of these point and shoots is one of convenience--with an SLR, the aperture and shutter speed settings are fairly easy to locate and adjust. With a consumer point and shoot, they are buried somewhere in menus, making them less convenient to use and making you more likely to miss a good shot. If you can live with that, and you're willing to make the adjustments, then, yes, you can expand your skills with both composition, lighting, and the ability to control exposure, depth of field and motion/shutter speed.

I disagree with creatures. You can learn a lot of important photography skills even on the cheapest cameras. In fact, some skills (like lighting, holding very still) you'll probably learn better on a junky camera. Personally, I hate viewfinders. A live LCD screen is perfect for me, except when it's inappropriate because of the light it makes.
