Which camera is best for Plane spotting? around 拢500/- any suggestions?

I love plane spotting and want a good digital SLR camera with a good lense but at resonable price. Any suggestions? please tell me if u know. my budget is around 拢500. and where can I get it from?
Thanks

I use a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7.
It has a 12x Optical zoom which is equal to a 35mm camera focal length of 36-432mm.
The camera has a large viewing screen and is rated at 6 mega pixels.
Check out my photos on the link below and leave a message on my inbox.
Hope this helps,
cheers.

Hi, you need to consider both the camera and the lens. You need a long lens for aircraft images and high megapixels for lots of detail you can crop into, so you can enlarge the image. You'll get a better combination in terms of quality options if you consider second hand. I'd suggest a zoom lens because it's more flexible than a fixed focal length telephoto, a wide aperture / sports zoom lens will also enable you to use faster shutter speeds, so you can freeze action, or shoot in lower light conditions. I'd suggest you stick with Canon or Nikon in the DSLR (digital SLR) market. Hope that helps! PS Get an Optical zoom - digital zoom is just like cropping your digital image... it degrades information!

I have had great success with shooting air shows using a 70-300mm zoom.

Camera wise, if you already have glass go with that brand of camera ... if not look at Nikon and Canon cameras. They are what the pros use

Get a canon 400d, best AF system in its class (which you'll need for plane spotting) if you add on a 70-300 lens (I think Jessops were doing good deals on the tamron version of such a lens when bought with a 400D) then you have an equivalent maximum focal length of 480mm.

Don't forget a tripod though! At this focal length you'll need one

As mentioned previously... look at the lenses you already have for your film camera... if nikon go with a used d50. If Canon Eos 350D.

If you have nothing right now, go with the used d50 and a good used lens.

As for the reason of the D50... well its being phased out by the D40 and unlike the D40 it has a few bells and whistles that the D40 doesn't have, not the least of which is a motor in the camera body so that the camera can use any AF lens made for Nikon not just the AF lenses with the built in motors (saves you money on lenses).

Now... no up front that the D50 wont have the fastest iso in the universe... you start getting noise above 800.... but most digitals have quite a bit of noise beyond 400 or 800 and the higher stated ISOs are usually not usable. You should be able to pick up a good used d50 on ebay for less than 拢250 which would give you the rest for a good lenses.
