Can you recommend a digital camera good for taking action shots?

I currently have a nikon coolpix L3. I take a lot of action shots of horse racing. I also have shaky hands and most of my pictures turn out blurry. Any recommendations in the $200 or $250 price range?

I'm not sure of the price range but this camera looks impressive to me. Fujifilm S5700

If you have shaky hands, a change of camera wont help. Nikon Coolpix L-3 is a good enough camera. I suggest you use a tripod while taking action or any pictures. Compact and light tripods are available and wont cost as much as a new camera.

All point and shoot cameras have some degree of shutter lag. That makes them a poor choice for action photograph; even shooting glamour or other subjects that require a certain amount of instant shutter control.

The only way around this is to buy a DSLR but with your budget, I don't think you can find even a used DSLR for under $250 let alone lenses..

The Nikon Coolpix L5 and L12 have image stabilization which should help with your camera "shake", although when shooting action, it may be more of a camera blurr, because your camera is using too slow a shutter speed for the action.
