Suggestions for a digital camera (around/under $100) for an 11 year old to start out with?

How large an SD memory card would be needed (or other peripheral items really needed to make it work 'right') for your suggestion and what price would that add (if any)?

Daughter wants to dabble (and play a bit) but I don't want to break the bank. She'd like it to have "mini-video" capabilities as well (ability to film a short digital video) via the same device. I saw some Vivitar Vivicams (4100? 5100?) that might fill the bill - is that series any good or are there others you'd suggest?

A friend of mine got this camera. She loves it. It works great and is easy for her.

i got my 9 year old little girl a kodak easy share. last year it was 99. i have seen it this year for about 75. it is only 4 mp, but it works for her. also i got her a 64mb sd card, that way there are not so many pictures, that she cant handle. the model naumber is c310. good luck. i know she will love any camera you get her. so dont stress out about it.

i bought a Fujifilm finepix a400, it cost me $99 at target. I love it. its 4.1 megapixels and takes awsome pics. im also a first time user, so its very easy to use. I bought a fujifilm 250mb memory card for it, think that was $25. I couldnt find anything smaller. but i do know you have to use a fujifilm card with it. good luck u can also take short videos with it

That's not a bad camera at all. It holds an SD memory card, but none comes with it at that price. It has "built-in memory", and depending on camera setting can take 9 to 31 pics before you'd have to upload to computer/delete. Also takes short videos.

If you want to get an SD card as well, watch for great deals on www.slickdeals.net. I got a 512MB SD card for FREE (w/MIR) recently from a deal found on there. 1GB cards can also be frequently had for $10-$15 if you check there every couple days or so. A card would allow much longer vids to be taken.

I started out with one that takes "mini videos" and pictures and you can also like do "auto times" and everything.. I bought it a JC pennys for $79 dollars and it lasted like a long time.. it was a really good camera too.. it had good zoom .. i cant remember the name I just got a new one but it started with a J and its a silver
