kodak easyshares are GREAT, but they eat up batterys like CRAZY! get the rechargable batteries when you buy it, all you have to do is buy the battery and the charger, and you can just recharge it. it may seem like alot of money, but you save WAY MORE MONEY in the long run

I am sure you will get tons of replies to this. But you need to decide what you want. What's more important to you, size of the camera (small) or lots of zoom? You usually can't have both. Optical Zoom is what you want to look at, do not ever use digital zoom. Do you want one with an actual viewfinder that you can look through (this saves battery life) or that you have to use the LCD to compose picture? You want to buy a camera from a company that makes cameras (Canon (my favorite), Nikon, Pentax (my second fav.), etc.), stay away from off brands. Get the most megapixels you can afford.

Trust me you will want to get something with over 5 megapixels!

Well go to best buy and go shopping for one. I know its a little crazy but go out and shop thats part of the fun.

Nikon and Canon made great pocket camera. I don't know much about Nikon's model though so...

The Powershot A series should be good for you - it's not very expensive yet it'll give you some freedom to be creative with the camera.

My advice is look at the Canon "A" series camera with image stabilization. They are not overly expensive, and give you great picture quality. You don't have much to research but, I suggest you do it anyway. Don't just take my opinion. Amazon.com has good prices.

As one answerer put it shopping is part of the fun....but don't let salesperson talk you into an off brand. Don't know how much you're spending so I can only be vague.
Between $150- to $200- should buy you a decent camera. In that price range most cameras are 3X or 4X optical zoom. 4 to 6 megapixels is sufficient. Among just a very few other brands to choose from are Sony which I have, and yes it makes TVs and a lot more. So it's not just a camera company. Also, Canon, Fuji and Nikon.
You might consider the Canon PowerShot A550 or Canon Powershot A630. Another to consider is the pink Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55 or Fuji F20 if that one is still around.

i got a finepix A330 that i`m very happy with it has a zoom, flash, it comes with batterys, will take a 60 second movie(no sound). and comes with a 16MB picture card, holds 85 pictures. it also comes with a disk so you can upload your pictures to your computer, a USB cable to plug into your computer, a another cable that will plug into your VCR so you can watch the pictures on your tv or record them to a VCR tape, and you can get an adapter that will recharge your batterys right in your camera another nice feature is that you can use it as a webcam if you like just plug the charger in like your charging the batterys. i paid i think 150.00 dollars for mine but i upgraded the picture card to a 28MB one, holds 260 pictures. i never got the charger (they did`nt have one in stock at the time) and it was just a little bit bigger than a bar of soap. i went to a friends wedding and took a bunch of pictures and was told they should have hired me to take the wedding photos because their photographer(paid 2000 dollars) used film(mine were much better grade pictures) i shot a few videos with it(the only ones they got of their wedding) and had burned all the pictures to a disk before they had their first night as husband and wife. i still get remarks about the videos and the pictures 3 years later and yes i got teased about bringing my laptop to a wedding. everyone crowded around to look at the pictures all in all i love my camera and hope you find one that you love also

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on.......

The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

my suggestion
