I need a new digital camera that shoots good action shots and does well in low lighting. Up to about $300.?

i'm going to florida in june and desperately need a new digital camera to play with. I'm looking for something good quality but not too expensive (I'm a poor college student, I know its hard to get quality and price to work well together). I need something that will do action shots well, zoom well, and handle low lighting (thats the main problem I've run into with my current camera, I can hardly take any pictures after sunset.) If you have any ideas I would be very appreciative.

Check out the Panasonic Lumix series of cameras, they have Leica 2.8 lenses, which is great for low light, they also have image stabilization, which is also beneficial in the low light .. they also have full manual controls, so you can control, aperture, shutter speed, iso...

. I have one, and have had great luck with night shots, sunset shots, sports shots...

For that price and for shooting sports, you are looking at a used 35mm SLR (you can find good used Nikon's and Canon's with a lens for under $250.

Compact digital cameras are notorious for shutter lag ... .08 to 2 seconds. SLR's and DSLR's lag is under 50 milliseconds. That is why you see sports photographers using SLR or DSLR cameras.

I've been very happy shopping the Canon line within your designated price range. Check out their A-line that uses AA rechargeables. Their lens quality's unparallelled, better optics=better results. The low-light is superbly handled by the auto programs even live action clips.

Pentax Optio E10 or Sony cybershot will be ok for you. The price range is approx. $300.00...$400.00

Both are with 6 megapixel resolution & 3 x optical zoom.

Canon, Sony,Panasonic, Nikon are all good brands for you to choose. If you want to buy one around $300, I recommend Sony Cyber-shot DSCT20,It is 8.1MP, 3X Zoom, Slim, sleek design; face detection; optional HD output; fast performance. I find a nice review for it, you can have a look:

Fujifilm Finepix F30. It goes up to ISO 3200. It has awesome battery life.
