Are there any professional digital camera people here?

in debating which digital camera to get; what are the qualities in looking for a great digital camera at a reasonable price?

It all depends on what type you are looking for? point and shoot or SLR. I use a Pentax in the SLR my friend uses a Canon both make great photos. But it seems like his lens cost way more then mine not sure why.The one advantage too Canon or even Nikon is they are more common and alot of places rent lens for them so you don't always have to buy them.
Quality is pretty close colours may differ a little but can fixed in most camera settings or through software in the editing process.
Canon and Nikon cost a little more then Pentax roughly 150-200 more here in Canada anyways.

Yes, Canon and Nikon. All the qualities that make a good professional camera are to be had on these two cameras.

Next time you are at a sporting event you will notice that all the pros are using Canon's and Nikon's.

If you want to copyright the images in the camera, check and see if the one you eventually choose has the ability to add an image comment.

If you consider a reasonable price to be between $5,000 and $9,000 for one body and three lenses, then there you have it.

most digital cameras come down to personal preferences. here are a couple places you can go to get camera reviews and side by side comparisons.

I recently purchased a "pro" digital camera, after debating the subject for a couple of years. I knew I'd have to sell several of my film cameras to make the transition, so it was not an easy decision. A friend of mine at work has a Canon EOS30D so I had a chance to play with that. Then another friend brought in his Nikon D200 and I tried it out. I was sold on the Nikon right away... the body is magnesium rather than plastic, and the D200 has a really nice LCD. I liked the interface better, also, but still there was a learning curve until I could feel comfortable shooting with it. I've had it for a couple of months now and I'm really pleased with it.

Both Canon and Nikon make a number of models depending on the type of work you want to do, and they both make a range of excellent lenses. Of course the really good lenses are expensive, but IMO worth the money.

My father recently bought a Pentax K10D and I've played with it a little as well. I would say that although it is a nice camera, it does not at all feel as solid as the D200.

This is just my personal preference, you YMMV (your mileage may vary).
