I'm looking for a inexpensive yet solid digital camera.I dont need anything hi-tech, price range $150-$175.The best camera for under $200 is the Canon A550

* USB 2.0 High Speed support Clearance... I have bought 5 digital cameras over the last several years, all were on clearance at Walmart and ranged from 25 to 65 percent below the best price for the same model found by the Internet product search engines.
I am now using a Sony which was discounted about 100 dollars off its 300something original sale price. It was $50 less than the cheapest price pricegrabber could find today, and I've had it about a month...
For your $175 target I saw a few good looking 6Mpixel units, both with 3x optical zoom on the table when I bought this Sony.
Best advice: Don't get caught up with minor differences in features or brand names.
Create a list of your desired specifications and rank these.
If you have memory of a specific type, shop with that in mind. SD is the most common in inexpensive digi cameras right now, BUT, I have found some, NAMELY NIKON cameras would not work with my higher speed SD's... BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR MEMORY AND CAMERA TOGETHER. Memory comes in a variety of speeds and each camera may or may not work properly with a given memory card.
Brands I suggest for P/S (Point & Shoot) digi's:
Samsung
Kodak
Nikon (with the proviso on memory above)
Panasonic...
You'll find many of the units are quite similar and the brands don't seem to make a big (or even detectable) difference when comparing the equivalent settings from 1 camera to the next. PANASONIC LUMIX SERIES ,MOST UNDER $200 AND THEY HAVE IMAGE STABILIZER SYSTEM .VERY NICE I purchased a Samsung S850 for $160. Loaded with features for a point and shoot type camera and takes excellent photos. Circuit Citys website can arrange cameras by price for you and offers user reviews of each product so it is a good starting point in searching for a good digital camera since you can read all the opinions of other people who have used the camera. I just got sone reading info about this very subject!
I think I'm going buy a Cannon PowerShot A460. I know my local Wal Mart has them in stock for $128.88 and it got great reviews! They are listed cheaper online. You can also go directly to Canon's website at: www.digitalcamera-hq.com my suggestion

2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. Takes "continuous" 2 frames per second "action/sports" images;
4. Has macro feature for close-ups of small objects focused under 6 inches;
5. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
6. It's very small and light;
7. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards - a 2 gig card sells for $19 at samys.com;
8. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
9. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
10. Has tripod mount on bottom of camera;
11. And the price is a mere $119 [sold at Samy's Camera - samys.com, and Staples.com.]
