Best digital camera for a decent price?

Probably gonna buy a Canon, but any suggestions on a particular model?

If you鈥檙e looking for a point & shoot, user friendly digital camera, I have to say, I like Canon. Nothing against other the other brands. I prefer Canon based on personal experience and their reputation. They have an awesome line of cameras that can fit any kind of budget and offers different features depending on type of photography usage.

Consider the Canon PowerShot models, the A630 (8 mp) or the A640 (10mp). (I have an older version of these cameras; the PowerShot A620 [7.1 mp]).

These models have helpful pre-set shooting modes that you choose for the particular picture situation you are about to shoot. Like: auto(matic), portrait, nighttime, landscape, indoor, snow, beach, kids & pets (subjects that won鈥檛 keep still), and more鈥? You can also be creative with some of the models, where you can choose special FX settings as you are shooting a pictures. It also has the option to program/set your own manual setting.

My favorite features of these models, is the vari-angle display/LCD screen. It protects the screen when not in use, and helpful for odd angle shots. Picture taking is instant! I have found lag time is not an issue.

Here is a review and its features (keep scrolling to see the vari-angle screen), up close and personal:

Here is where I go to shop online for the best price for digital cameras. (Which I found to have considerable better prices than going locally to your nearest digital camera dealer). Just type in your camera model in the 鈥榮earch keyword鈥? http://lowpricedigital.com/category.asp?... Buy soon or check daily, for prices changes daily amongst merchants. Also check if the camera is being sold 鈥榥ew鈥?or 鈥榬efurbished鈥?

If you鈥檇 rather buy from the store, check the usual places, Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Target, and camera stores. Even consider Office Max, Office Depot, CostCo/Sam鈥檚 Club---any store with a camera department. I saw Circuit City's Sunday ad selling the A640 for $229.99. It may be even cheaper on-line.

Thanks for picking me! I bought my PowerShot A620 based soley on it's "flippin'" (looks like I'm using that word in place of the other "F" word! lol) LCD screen. Secondly, I knew I couldn't go wrong, being that it is made by Canon! You'll love either PowerShot models...A630 or A640. Report It

I have been using a sony cyber shot & it works great,here's a website with most all models & brands u can think of...http://www.shopping.com

I personally have a kodak DX7630. I have had it for 3 years and paid $300 for it on ebay when it was regularly $600. I have not had a problem with it at all. It takes great pictures and is easy to work. I have recently upgraded to the Kodak V803 for $175 off ebay regularly $200 and I love it!!! My boyfriend has a Kodak also and he loves it. My parents have a Sony and they like it. It just depends on what you are looking for it to do and what you are comfortable holding. Most of the cameras out now are very reasonable and are pretty portal and not so bulky like previous ones. I hope this has given you a little insight. Good luck.....

CANON SD800. I saw some deals at dell around 250 not sure if it stills valid.

my suggestion

digital camera GUIDE
be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions

Go for this one:

The best camera for under $200 is the Canon A550

* 7.1 Megapixel
*4X Optical Zoom
* Very good photo quality, noise levels low through ISO 400 (in good light)
* Well built for the price
* Very good performance
* LCD visible in low light
* Some manual controls
* AF-assist lamp, good low light focusing
* Good movie and continuous shooting modes
* Impressive software bundle
* Uses AA batteries; great battery life
* USB 2.0 High Speed support

I have had three digital cameras in the past year and I am absolutley in love with the Sony cyber-shot!! I have the one with 7.2 megapixels. I adore it! It costed $199.99

I agree with NAB. SHe uses the term "vari-angle LCD display" and you might not catch what that means. Canon also calls this a "flip-out and twist" monitor. This is what you are looking for.

However...

You can also put a small mirror behind ANY camera with an LCD monitor and look into it to see how your pose looks. Use the "delay timer" - also on virtually ANY camera - so you won't have your own arm extending into the frame as you hold the camera.

I must have an "oldie"! I have the Power Shot A610, which is the 5 megapixel model.

I see the A610 has given birth to the A620, which in turn has advanced to the A630 and now has grown to the 10 megapixel, A640.

As much as my A610 has not let me down, I can't help but notice that the A640 is coming close to the price I had purchased my A610.

You mentioned that you like to include yourself in your pictures. I have come to find that these Canon Power Shot models, (A610/620/630/640), are the only ones I've seen with flip and twist display screens. (I could be wrong). You can flip the screen to face you when you have the camera aimed at yourself, (or yourself with others), so you can check yourself right before you hit that shutter button. As Dr. Sam mentioned, you can also use the self-timer, if you decide to set the camera on a tripod or something, and have the display screen flipped towards you.

The A640 was selling for over $300, last year. Now I've come across it selling in the mid to lower $200, (in the stores and even lower if you search on-line). With all it's features, at 10 megapixels, and larger sensor, it's a great value for your money!
