Kodak P850, is my favorite so far. but its $500

I would recommend Best Buy or BestBuy.com. They have great sales on camera's and they have a Fuji with a 8.3 MP and 4Xzoom on sale for 159.99. Don't believe everything a sales person tells you. MP (mega pixel) is the sharpness of the image. If you get a 5.0 thru 8 MP you will not see that much difference in the image. It sounds like this is your first digital camera. Get something basic. Most camera's come with the software that lets you edit, crop, and make changes to your picture. You can also download photo shops, photo editing software for free on the Internet. Download.com is a great site to check out. The other thing to consider is the memory card. In most cases they are sold separate from the camera. Just remember that once you transfer your pictures from the camera to the computer, that you probably won't need them on the camera anymore. So you are free to delete them off of the memory card to free up space. On average, a 2GB card will hold at least 500 pictures. So you might be able to get away with a smaller memory card. I have a Sony Cyber-shot 7.2-Megapixel Digital Camera
Model: DSC-W55. Works great. Nice pictures. It's around $200. Uses memory stick pro so i can view pics on psp.

panasonic FX30K= about $250
its small, compact, thin, easy to use, has an Optical Image Stabilizer, has the continuous shooting feature, good battery life, 7.2 megapixels, and does feature the black and white mode.
the only downside to panasonic cameras is that they use quicktime format, but it shouldnt be a problem if you like quicktime :D.

Even though I personally own this camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:

1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
4. It's very small and light;
5. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards;
6. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
7. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
8. Has tripod mount on bottom of camera;
9. And the price is a mere $120 [sold at Samy's Camera - www.samys.com, and Staples.com.]
