Canon A530. Retails for your budget, takes great pictures, and has lots of features if you decide to get creative. If I were in the market at that price point that is exactly the camera I would buy myself. Check out the website, www.kenrockwell.com. You will need to search for Canon A530 there and will find an article where he compares that camera to a much much more expensive SLR.

Try Canon, they have a wide selection of choices. You could look around on the net beforehand too.
