Whats the best digital slr camera at the moment for under 拢400?

I am told the nikon d40 is the best on the market at that price and just wanted to confirm before i bought one.. I will be buying it in the states when i go over there in february 08 to take advantage of the exchange rate

The Nikon D40 is a great choice, and so is the Panasonic digital SLR. Reviews on both are similar, but the Panasonic is easier to learn and to handle.

I would have to say that you've been told correctly. I've heard that the Panasonic is also good, but Nikon has a much wider variety of lenses available.

The best in my opinion especially for beginner slr users is the canon 400D. Not only is it a great camera but in terms of compatibility, almost every accessory, lense, etc etc can be found for this camera. Also as the biggest manufacturer of slr's in the world, there is always plenty of literature and online help available for them. 2nd choice would be the nikon d40x. basically if you stick to canon or nikon, you can never go very far wrong.

Easily the Nikon D40... dont argue, just go for it, you wont regret it.
