Memory card failed?

I have a memory card for my camera that I use daily and transfer the pics onto my computer.When I tried to do this today,the computer said something about error I/O device.I thought it was the computer,but all the devices seem to be working properly.
I reviewed the pictures on the camera before putting it in the drive and they were fine,but now when I insert the memory card back into the camera it says it needs to be reformatted,but when I press OK,it goes back to the same screen.So does it sound like I need a new memory card?Thanks in advance!

Memory cards have limited write cycles (particularly for cheaper and/or older models) and needs to be replaced eventually.

Although low level format may help, I recommend replacing it immediately. Memory cards are very inexpensive these days and you don't want to risk losing precious pictures.

I recommend getting SanDisk Ultra II or Extreme III series memory. Purchase it from a reputable dealer as there are many fakes.

You can do a hard format (with the computer, and unselect "quick format"). You'll lose what is on the card and hopefully you'll have a card that is now empty & is ready to be used.

How old is it? They're pretty cheap nowadays. Better to get a replacement if it keeps giving you troubles.
