My Cash Register Came up short??

I work for burger king
and I have worked there for 2 months and today for the first time my register came up 8 dollars short

I was told I have to pay it back
When I came in this morning They had me scooping fries, running drive thru and doing a million other things
and They want me to do all of this stuff and other people are using my register and there making me pay it back

I know I wouldnt come up short because I count about three or four times when Im handing out money

Is there anything I can do?
I Live in GA?
Do I have the right to make them review the cameras to check and see if it was one of the other people working out my register?

The managers are now claiming that I am responsible for the register and I signed a paper saying that when I began working which I did

They said Im responsible for it today since it was assigned in my name and I shouldnt let anyone use it

If they have me doing a million different things I cant be at the front counter watching the register and doing things in the back at the same time.

There is a thing on the register to put a code in to lock your drawer but I was told not to do that
This just isnt fair
and When I talked to my manager about it she is like "ITS JUST 8 DOLLARS" shes like it isnt that important
I was like it is to me

Yep, the 8 bucks isn't worth the job.

fair or not, there is really no way you can "prove" someone else took the money.

the likelihood is that someone gave out incorrect change, may they though they were given a twenty instead of a ten.

Whether it's you or someone else, it cannot be proven one way or another. fortunately the amount is small, so pay it and move on.

or fight it, get fired, and have a "terminated for embezzlement" comment put on your personnel file.

Which is worse? you decide.

I work at Five Guys Burgers and Fries in Connecticut.
and some kid came up 40 dollars over today, so they have to talk to him tomorrow but I would be happy if i was over.

I was short 300 dollars once and i asked the manager if he counted the credit receipts he hadnt. I ended up 2 bucks short and he didnt care.

Tell them its 8 bucks and there a multimillion dollar corporation tell them to shove it. 8 bucks wont make a difference to them.

If there are other people running your cash register then you alone can not be held totally responsible for it coming up short. Talk to your store manager about it. Explain that others also run your register at times, and you are not comfortable with others using your register. Good luck.

damm that. You dont have to pay back anything. Anybody that has every worked a cash register knows that sometimes the till is off. 8 dollars is nothing. BK takes that as a loss. you dont have to pay back anything. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard

You can't be held accountable for money in a register others are using. It's not legal. However, if you make issue of it to your employer keep in mind that there are 200 other people waiting for your job. Is it worth the 8 bucks?

That's bull sh*t, my friend. Management knows the risks of allowing too many hands in the till. Refuse to pay it, and give them hell if they insist. Shooo! Eight bucks IS a big deal. Fast food doesn't pay jack. But it's the principle, too.

Yea you have the right!! Thats not cool at all! Tell the manager that you think someone is setting you up or whatever and have him/her watch it. If he/she doesn't really do anything about it, find a different job!

Well to make life easier, since it's only 8 bucks.. I suggest paying them back, I'm sure it won't happen again but for the sake of your job, pay them back.

i think you all should chip in a little of what ever was lost

Unfortunately it depends on the Manager at this particular Burger King. Most of the time, he or she would rather not spent the time looking through your entire shift of camera film to see if someone has sabatoged your cash drawer. Ask them if they will let you review the film in your spare time off the clock. Maybe they will see how sincere you are and allow this to happen. Also explain to the manager how unhappy you are scooping fries and running the drive-thru. I am 31 and I worked for mcdonalds when I was a teenager, and to say the least I did not enjoy it. I was happy to find another job working for a grocery store because i wanted to keep the income stream coming in. I really feel that this is not a good fit for you. I would continue working until i found another job. If you need help finding another job i can be of some assistance. i have helped several family members and friends find jobs in the past few months. So if you do sent me your area of choice(cities that you would like to work in) what you would like to do for employment, and a resume to eric_rice2k6@yahoo.com I will see what i can do free of charge. good luck!!
