Red light camera took picture on yellow light?

So It was turning left on Olympic and Bundy and I entered the intersection just as it turned yellow and as im turning I see a flash... Now im in a world of trouble if I get a ticket I really cant afford it right now.. is there any possibility they review it to realize it was a yellow light and wont send me a ticket or if they do can I fight it? It was clealy a yellow light...

It is illegal to enter an intersection on a yellow light. The only time you can drive through a yellow light is when it is flashing, and then you must reduce speed, and proceed with caution. All this information is in the rules of the road.

I would always fight a camera ticket. Normally I just say pay your ticket and don't do it again. However, red light cameras are such a scam. Study after study has shown that increasing the length of the yellow light makes for a far safer intersection than one with a camera.

But I digress. As someone else said, it may not have taken a picture of you. If it did, just go to court and make them prove that the light was red and that you were operating the car.

I got one a few months back. I was coming up on the intersection and the light turned yellow at a bad time. I either had to just go through the intersection or slam on the brakes. So I went through the intersection. The light was yellow by the time I exited the intersection, so I didn't act unsafely or even illegally in most places. But I got a ticket in the mail, so I just called the city prosecutor and raised such a stink that he dismissed it.

This happened to me but I luckily never received a ticket. However, I did prepare to fight it. There are some traffic court judges that throw out all photo red light tickets due to conflict of interest. The judge that started this precedent is in San Diego and began this because the maintainers of the traffic lights often are the one's with a city/county/state contract. Those contracts often stipulate that those companies (Lockheed Martin in my case) receive a portion of the fines collected from those issued tickets. To say the least, this is a conflict of interest. The companies can skew the timing of the camera and light for their monetary benefit. If you do get a ticket in the mail, you can get a copy of the contracts to maintain the cameras and copies of the cases where judges threw out all the red light camera tickets. All of which are part of public record.

I would try and fight it, but that's just me. I would want a picture of me in the intersection with a solid red light to say that I ran a red light. Until then it's just a picture of you driving. Shame you weren't flippin' the bird. lol.

I've heard reports that there has been an increase of rear-end accidents due to these cameras. because people not wanting to get 1 of those tickets, so they stop suddenly, and the unsuspecting motorist behind them don't realize that they were going to stop for a yellow light.
"Do not enter the intersection if you can stop safely before doing so. If you cannot stop safely, proceed through the intersection with caution." Check your drivers handbook and see if there is anything in there about what you are supposed to do when you get a yellow light.
Maybe get advise from a real lawyer (I am not in anyway shap or form) if you can find 1 that will give you a free initial meeting ask him/her what thier thoughts are on it.

Stay Calm and wait, it is likely taking a picture of the person behind you. No sense worrying until you actually get the ticket, IF you get it.

Almost every jurisdiction requires a human being to sign off on the tickets before they are mailed.

If you do get it then fight it and the ticket should have information in it on how to fight it.

If you know such a picture exist, they must disclose it. Otherwise it would be burying exculpatory (sp) evidence. I don't think they can do it for even a minor infraction like a stop light. They might charge you a processing fee though.

JMHO, no lawyer or law enforcement person here

i was hearing something about these things..they have them in minneapolis near us and all they are doing is causeing accidents by peole not wanting tickets so they nail the brakes and get rear ended
anyways what i was hearing was alot of cops were getting tickets which is kinda more legal for them to go thru the lights..in any case they wouldnt pay they said its our job charge the station and the station said were not driving..in any case it sounded like they were gonna give up on them
another story is my buddy got nailed by 1 in duluth and theysent him a pic of him in his car going thru it so he took a picture of 110 bux and sent them the pic ..lol..he never heard anything from them..altho i would not advise doing that but it was an awesome "screw you" idea ;)

The camera is linked to the RED light and will only activate when the light is RED,, not only that you must have been passed the traffic light to be able to enter the intersection.

I'm sure you can fight it in court if you really want to, but more than likely while you were making your turn the light turned red because the yellow light doesn't stay on long.

it is not illegal to enter a yellow light only a red one
