Laptops: Is a 512mb and 80gb laptop okay for storing photos and downloading music?

Do I need to go bigger (more space, speed)? And if I were to get the 512mb/80gb laptop, can I add more space to it? Whats the minimum I should get for saving photos from a digital camera and downloading music without going over a $1000?

Yeah, if that is your main goal then your laptop sounds good enough. Eighty gigabytes is a lot, especially if it only for pictures and music. If you start doing videos, then you will definitely need something bigger and a bit more powerful.

For under a thousand dollars, this sounds good enough. If possible, see if you can get one gigabyte of RAM as opposed to five hundred and twelve megabytes of RAM. It will help you in the future.

If you really need it to store a lot of songs, just replace the 80gb hard disc into a bigger capacity hard disc, ie. 120gb or more if you can. 512 MB RAM I think that's enough for you, if you need a better performance for your laptop, for playin a lot of songs, upgrade to 1GB or more if your laptop have a lot of expansion slots.

The hard drive is what's important for storing multimedia(photos, music, video), and I don't think you will find a laptop with more hard drive memory than that. You can probably add more memory, you can on most computers, but with that much, you probably won't need to.

you should definatly be able to get a good computer for 1000 bucks.... but if you are going to pay that much i would probably look for a little more memory but im american and im greedy so ........ ya 80 gb should be enough. and 512 ram? thats good my computer has 128 lol.... and yes most computers will use either ddr, ddr2, sdram or some ther type of memory stick that will be pretty easy to put in and an internal hard drive can be relaced with a bigger one but an exteral one may be good to dump extra files to. 1 picture is about 1-2 mb and one song is 2-5 mb 1 gb =1024 mb so u can hold plenty songs if at all possibe avoid dell... cheap rip offs. bad. hope this helps

just get a good laptop from the beginning. adding disk space later is possible, but it presupposes the exchange of the hard disk and the setup of the operating system, the applications ... and, and, and.

a very good deal atm is the Toshiba Satellite A105-S4384 from Circuit City. it has twice as much ram and hard disk space (1024mb and 160gb) and even has the new Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a CD & DVD burner for $850.
