and i really wanna know what she has and if there is something we can do to make it go away becuz we just took our other cat to the vet and it cost $150 just for them to say that he will get better on his own...so i can only imagine how much it would be if they say her..cuz shes worst.so if you know what it is and if there is anything you can buy at a store to make it better could you please tell me. and no im not an adult...im only 14...kinda hard to believe when you read some of the answers i've posted but...ya know...i have my smart moments.

he didnt get shots when we spent $150...so dont make me feel like sh!t. all the vet did was examine him and tell us he would get better on his own.so dont give me that.

IT COULD BE EITHER. IF YOUR CAT IS SHAKING HER HEAD TO ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER AND SCRATCHING AT IT OFTEN IT SOUNDS MORE LIKE EAR MITES. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT RING WORMS WERE ALWAYS ON THE OUT SIDE OF THE BODY. I KNOW THAT CATS ARE CARRIERS OF RING WORMS AND PARVO. I'VE NEVER HAD A CAT GET RINGWORMS OR COME DOWN WITH PARVO . YOU CAN GET EARMITE MEDECINE FOR CATS AT WAL-MART. YOU HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT OTHER MEDECINES THOUGH BECAUSE A CATS SKIN IS POREOUS AND ONE THING THAT MAY WORK FOR A DOG MAY SERIOUSLY HARM YOUR CAT. IF THE DIRECTIONS SAY IT'S SAFE FOR CATS AND DOGS OR KITTENS AND PUPPIES YOU CAN USE IT.

I could not access your photos to take a look at things. Also, I am not a veterinarian, and you really need to take your cat to the vet for a proper diagnosis. $150 is very reasonable for an office visit and a couple of shots. It is simply the cost of having a pet. You probably spend more than that on a single shopping spree!
Okay, enough lecture. As for ear mites, they will look like coffee grounds in the ears. Ear wax is patchy -- if it's little dots all over, it's probably mites. You need a prescription to get rid of them (Tresaderm or the flea/tick control Revolution will do it). As for ringworm, a skin scrape must be done for a definate diagnosis, but if you use a black light in a dark room to look at the area, it will show up light green. Be careful! Ringworm is very contagious to people and other animals. Treatment will take several weeks to get rid of it.
Is your cat on flea/tick control every month? It may be a simple flea allergy. Please, please, please take him to the vet. Some vets are cheaper than others, so call around and ask what their office visits cost. You can also call your local SPCA and ask them if they know the more reasonably priced vets in your area. Just please don't ask them medical questions -- they are not veterinarians either. Good luck!

Hi- I tried to have a look at your pictures for you, but your album is apparently private so I can't access them.

You ought to take her to a vet- a consult will probably cost about $40-$50. I will send my email address to you- if you want to email the pics, I'd be more than happy to help if I can.

No one can see the pictures because it says "this album is private" and has username tdish14 and a blank for password, can you fix this? EDIT I could be wrong, but the picture on the left looks like ringworm to me.

Go to the vet and get some Revolution for your cat. It costs around $12 and it will take care of any ear mites she might have. You can also buy ear cleaner at the pet store to clean her ears gently with a cotton ball.

If you think she has ringworm she will need some anti fungal shampoo to take care of that. My cat had ringworm and I found out the hard way. I got it and had to figure out where it was coming from and it was him. I took him to the vet and he give me some anti fungal shampoo. I think it was $13 for the shampoo and the office visit was $25. You can try some anti fungal ointment from the store but more than likely she is going to lick it off. Ringworm causes all the hair to disappear from a certain spot.

It's possible she could have flea allergies and that is what is causing the hair loss. If that's the case the Revolution will take care of that problem too. I would get the Revolution and clean out the ears and see what happens from there. Be careful ringworm is contagious so be sure to wash your hands after handling her.

You need a new vet if he tells you this will get better on its own, it wont, so find a new vet...ASAP! Your cat is sick and needs help...

First of all, I would look for a new vet. One place to try is to pretend you are looking for a cat with petfinder (I have provided a link). That will tell you who has cats available. Call them and ask them to suggest a good vet. Often, they are using vets that are not only reliable, but also inexpensive.

Only a vet can diagnose the problem. I did look at your pictures, but ear mites are tiny. But your cat has probably a 99.9% chance of having them if she was never treated, or not treated properly. Mineral oil in the ear with smother them, but may not reach all of them. Only a vet can provide the proper treatment, such as a suitable insecticide, that will kill all of them. If left untreated, it can have lasting impact on your cat.

For ringworm, I have posted a link that has pictures. If there is a scaly edge, that is what is probably is. It is common in cats, and easy to treat. If left untreated, it will be devastating. Your picture suggests ringworm to me, but I am not a dermatologist. I did have to cope with two cats that got it.

As regards the vet. Just like you would not go back to a doctor that you saw if you felt the treatment was poor, so is the same with your cat. A simple check up should not cost $150 from most vets.

The pictured are blurred so I can only guess what may be the problem. One picture looks as if the cat is scratching deeply into the skin causing lesions. If the wounds are raised and have pus, it may be boils. Sometimes when cats get these, they reoccur because the infection stays in the system. Antibiotics are the only way to cure them. They are usually caused by bites from another cat. The vet will open and drain them and give a prescription. The ears problems are most likely mites. If the inside of the ear appears dirty and black, it is mites. The vet can five you a one dose treatment to rid them. I can understand your frustration but please calm down because most people here want to help. I hope I've given you some ideas as to what is happening with your cat. Over the counter products will not heal these conditions.Good luck .

go to the vet it sound bad

I could see the pictures. It was difficult to see what it could be. Ear mites are generally in the ears. Ringworm Is a round sore. The sore looks kind of round. I don't think it's ringworm.

hard to tell anything from the pictures, but the best thing for your cat is a visit to the vet's office. most people think that every time a pet has a problem with the ears, it must be ear mites. when in fact, if your cat is totally indoors and is an adult, the problem could be a ear infection, (yeast or bacteria) not mites. if you are not happy with the vet's answers, find another vet.
