I need to know the following:
What programs, if any, do I need to partition my computer?
How much space will there be on the new partition?
Can I store files from "My Documents" on the new partition?
Here are my specs:
I have an 80GB NTFS Hard Drive. (Couldn't find the brand.)
I have an A Drive (floppy), C Drive (physical HD), D Drive (Toshiba CD/DVD drive), and multiple F drives (an iPod, a Flash Drive, a Digital Camera)
I also would like opinions on whether creating a new partition is even a good idea, as I have about 40GB of data that I need to transfer and a lot of it is irreplacable. i doesn't sound like you even need another partition.
i would suggest that you do NOT partition it, or you take it into a professional to partition it for you. Why would you really want to partition? That is what you need to ask yourself. First thing, when you install programs you have to designate the correct drive, it won't always be the default "C" drive. Also, if you have hard drive failure you still will loose everything. I know people who only install WIndows on a partition in case of Windows corruption...If that happened I think the registry would be so messed up that it wouldn't make sense to just reinstall Windows.
I partition hard drives BUT it is a 320GB drive. One partition is a Backup of my main 74GB drive and the other partition is a backup of a 250GB storagge drive. My very important files are on the storage drive, but I have 3 hard drives with backup in case of failure of any one drive. you should not partition your hard drive if yu are a typical home user..then yu would not rather require it.and if your system is a branded one then refrain from partioning your hard drive as that may wipe out the SYSTEM RECOVERY software provided by your system vendor.if you still like to go ahead then drop me a mail
