I hear that traditional camera film will soon be extinct. Is it true?

Stores will supposedly stop selling it sometime in the future, because it's not profitable next to digital cameras.

I have a feeling we're moving in that direction and it saddens me. I love my old school camera, but I'm the only person I know who hasn't moved up to digital yet.
I don't know if the manufacturers are planning on phasing it out, but the consumers tend to rule the market.

i don't think so

Kodak has cut production of film way down so it is a good bet that film is on its way out.

No there will always be artsy types that want the old fashioned stuff. The film may get more expensive and harder to find though.

No way! There are about a billion film cameras out there and that makes a huge market for film. Digital is nice and convenient but a film photo is much higher in quality. I have a Kodak digital and love it but when I went to Yellowstone Park I took my Nikon N80, 4 lenses and 25 rolls of high quality film. The photos are absolutely incredible and I can make huge enlargements. Not so with digital. Film will be around for a long time.

Yes, it surely looks like. It is more convenient and economical and you can see your photos before printing, plus with new age digital SLRs even professionals are moving to digital cameras

well i should certainly hope not!

Probably, except for very high-end pro applications. I switched to digital four years ago and there's no going back. I can take hundreds of photos on one flash card, switching ISO speeds any time I want, and with a lot of cameras you can switch from color to black and white whenever you want. You can have your pictures immediately, and you can modify them on your computer without having to scan them in. Digital just plain rocks for most applications.

Nikon announced in March that they will stop making most film cameras (see link in sources section). So the world is heading digital. But that doesn't mean that film will go away.

The fidelity of digital does not quite match film yet and there will always be specific applications for film and film connoseurs who will keep buying the stuff.

Just look at vinyal records -- they are on a comeback even though CDs are the format of choice.

Well it will eventually, but not anytime soon. It will be several decades from now.
