Circuit City or Best Buy?

I'm thinking about buying a new digital camera.
Which store offers the best prices and selection?

Watch the sale papers from both stores. Especially if it's last years model. One store will beat the others price, and they're a lot cheaper than a camera store.

Best Buy and Circuit City have *both* been repeatedly sued by the attorneys general of most states for screwing customers.

It'd be a pretty stupid move to shop at either of those stores. Check the big mail-order companies in New York, or Staples, or someplace like that.

I got my last digital camera from Bestbuy and I haven't had any problems. I ordered it online.

I'd avoid both stores.

At Best Buy, they'll brag about how they're "not on commission", but what they don't tell you is how they all share in the sales each month. I once walked out because they refused to sell me a laptop if I didn't want the extended warranty. I drove down the street and got a matched price from another store without the pressure.

As for Circuit City, here's a link from a saleperson there who is obviously not a photographer and who will be advising customers. I mean, I'm really glad he asked, but don't assume the person behind the badge knows more than you do about the equipment.

Depending on the camera type you want, office supply stores like Office Depot, Staples, Office Max and department stores like Target have pretty good selections. Check Adorama, BHphotovideo, or Ritzcameras for good online prices.

Don't forget Amazon.com, as well.

I have bought electronic items from Circuit and Best, but if you can, there are other choices.

If you really, really need some guidance, that's where your local camera store will save the day. You really need to handle each model before considering it, trying the fit, size, and controls. By the way, Ritz/Wolf/Kit Camera stores will match the online prices if you ask.

Why not try your local professional camera store? The salespeople are trained and knowledgeable about every camera they sell. Buying a camera from them gives you access to someone who can answer questions, solve problems and offer intelligent advice. Some stores even offer an hour or two of actual instruction with your new camera.
Ask a technical question at either of the stores you mentioned and you'll likely get a blank stare.

I say buy online directly from the manufacturer. I am not a fan of either Best Buy or Circuit City. I recently ordered a sony cybershot from sonystyle.com.

Neither. I would go to these stores to decide what camera I wanted, then shop at a an online retailer like Amazon.com You usually get a better price and don't pay sales tax! Anything over $25 is shipped free as well.

haha george your funny. as an employee at bestbuy i can tell you that you dont get a "share" of the sales each month. but i agree with edwin. support local camera shops.

If there is one in your area you might try H.H. Gregg. I was really impressed that they can still haggle with you. I called them up and asked how much a Canon Rebel Xti was, he asked what he was up against, I told him $720 + 6 months interest free.

(Reg. $899 at best buy... The way I figured it was BB had it on sale for $799 and I had a 10% off coupon from a reward zone. It turns out I was wrong because the certificate was for reg price stuff only)...

Regardless he offered to get me OUT THE DOOR $715... now that included sales tax so he was really offering me sale a price of about 674.50 on a $899 camera. I bought it... and I dare you to find an XTi (with the lens kit, not just body) cheaper from anyone reputable.

Best Buy's employees seem to know more about what they sell. I am a camera rep. and I never look forward to going to circuit city stores.

I bought my digital camera through Best Buy online, and some other things. Never had any problems at all.

For the best information I would go and do research online and maybe visit a local camera shop and then buy @ Best Buy because they'll generally have the best prices since they dont' need to make much money on the cameras since they make money on other things unlike cameras stores which need to make money on cameras since that's all they have to make money on.
