Recommend a digital camera... ???

(Please don't laugh at me, LOL)

I have used the same Sony Mavica for about 6 or 7 years. You know, the one that some businesses still use --- uses floppy disks, used to cost about $600 (Ha... about 6 years ago!), has all sorts of nifty, on-board photo editing features.

Neither of my new computers have floppy drives! In fact,
on my last trip, I found out the hard way that many stores have stopped selling floppies.

I guess I need a new camera. My main comp has all of the various sizes of flash card readers built in, so I should probably get one that takes flash cards. I also want one that is at least 3 or 4 megapixels, has on-board photo editing, and is reliable with a good history.

Can anyone out there recommend a good camera for less than - say - $750? Thanks!

Thomasrobinsonantonio: Thanks for your thoughtfulness, but I am actually a commercial artist, so I know all of that (I'd better or I would be out of a job!). I'm looking for a brand recommendation.

I suggest the Nikon D50 or D70. They sound like what you need. Make sure that you get extra flash cards/memory sticks & an extra battery for whatever camera you finally get!

I suggest you do some research at www.dpreview.com
It's a great site which I frequent.

fuji finepix good camera user friendly

Any of the 'big' names about 5 or 6 mpixel - provided it comes with a 'docking station' which is used to feed your photos direct to the computer. Make sure it has a rechargeable battery which is recharged from the docking station. You never in fact see the flash/smart card or battery. Excellent innovation. Have a 1gb card and set your photos to Fine. Finally, ensure that a good photo editing suite is included on CD such as PS Studio or Photoimpact. Keep your albums on your own PC but also send them for public/private viewing on Yahoo Photos - it saves sending photo attachments on Email to your family and friends.

sanyo.the best product ever! having 5.0 mega pixel and very convinient to used.it has its all automatic operations, and best shots.try it.

i'm quite fond of my nikon 4600...

Any major brand such as Fuji, Cannon, Kodak or Nikon should work well for you. Do you want a digital SLR? I use a Kodak that came with a nice rebate. It has many features such as shutter priority, aperture priority or manual settings. I am an old Minolta SLR user so I like to have the aperture setting on my Kodak. One thing about Kodak cameras is that, at least in my case is that they are not TWAIN compatible. It does have a docking station and rechargeable batteries.

The digital camera market moves fast. So if someone says that their Cannon XXX works well in 10 months Cannon might not be making that model any more. I would read reviews at PCWorld online to get the latest information about cameras. I did about a year ago and bought my Kodak because of what they said about that model.

And yes isn鈥檛 it a pain that the new PC鈥檚 don鈥檛 have floppy drives? With my newest HP I can鈥檛 even put an internal floppy drive in it. I would have to buy one that hooks up to USB2.0.

I have a Nikon coolpix 7600, which is great for point and shoot. It's super user friendly and takes beautiful pictures (7.1 megapixels). It sounds like you need something more for a pro, lika a DSLR. Keep asking, but when you are ready to buy, you have to check out this site: www.beachcameras.com. They have EXCELLENT prices and customer services! A lawyer buddy of mine told me about them because he bought from them and was really pleased. I highly recommend them. I saw my camera for $329.00 on sale at a few stores first and then me about the paid $218.00 at beachcamera.com, plus they also had a special on the accessory kit and I saved even more! It was a score! Check it out before you buy anywhere else. Good luck!
