Need a good automatic point n shoot digital camera. low light picture taking important. around $300 ok?

i currently have a nikon 3200 and indoor pictures are not good, even w/flash. experts in three camera store i visted all have different recommendations. ojne of most important features is the ability to take pictures in loww light. i usually keep camera on auto

I have a Fuji Film FIne Pix 3800 and it takes good low light pictures. I have a special setting just for low light or darkness. Maybe you could check into that one? If you find one you like check them out on Ebay. New ones are really cheap on there. Good Luck !!

I have a Kodak Easyshre 340 that I won over a year ago. It is very easy to use and takes good pictures inside and out. I'm sure there is a more current model than the one I have. It has somes "bells and whistles" that i don't use, but the ones I do are easy to do.

Some of our best answerers always recommends the Fujifilm FinePix F20 camera as the best-for-less choice. I have to say that I like the sample images at Steve's site (below). If Morey000 or SpaceCowboy show up after me and make this recommendation, choose them as the best answer, because I'm just passing along their suggestion. I have no personal experience with this camera.

As long as it's in your budget, I think I'd buy the Fujifilm F31fd, which B&H has for $210 (after $30 rebate) right now. They have the camera with a 2GB Fuji xD memory card and Lowepro case for $263.

To improve low light performance significantly you'll have to buy a camera with:

a) a larger sensor to reduce noise
b) a hot shoe on top so you can use an external flash unit

Your best bet is to break open the piggy bank and get a DSLR like the Nikon D40 and a dedicated flash.

Otherwise you're not going to see much difference.
