Can you get in trouble or be arrested for.?

On Black Friday everyone knows that they want to get stuff like crazy.
So my question is I was at Circuit City and they hand out these rain checks for the really good products, this is while your waiting
, without these rain checks you would have to pay full price.
I got as many as these as I could cause I remember the year before I had tons of people asking if I wanted to buy these off of them,
Now I did the same thing this year and Im selling these rain checks for about 5 bucks,
I go in the store and start asking people even more and I'm doing my shopping as well and even asking people infront of the employees and even the assistant manager.
They really didnt care but then Im come to this hard but and I here him telling these ladies that they cant buy the camera and laptop without these rainchecks and I tell them, infront of him of course that I will sell them to them for 5 bucks and this man freaks.
He starts ranting that what I was doing was wrong and I try to to explain it to.

him that its okay and he says its not and I walk away.
My friend then yells out "hey were not going to go over here with these ladies and not sell them these"and this makes him even madder and says Im gonna go wine to the manager and make her kick you out, mind you I have about 350 dollars worth of stuff in my basket.
So we sell these things to the women.
Manager comes over and ask me if im selling Rain Checks of course I say no and hard buts face turns a bright red and after much questioning I get to go.
So What I want to say since everyone was doing it last year and even this year is it ilegal to sell these rain checks to people when I could just go on ebay and buy them?

You did nothing wrong, stupid, maybe, but not wrong.
The rain checks weren't made out to anybody.
As far as selling them goes, they're yours.

It probably voids the terms of the raincheck, so you profiting from selling them for $5 means you may be ripping off the people buying the raincheck. Also, you are cheating the store, which is why they have policies and rules regarding the rainchecks.

It also sounds a lot like scalping, and, while I can't say how, it may be illegal.

I don't think I'd say you're doing anything immoral, though.

its definatly not illegal. but doing it in front of the salesman was dumb. i dont see why he should care though. next time pull them aside and make the deal. ofcourse even if they said 'well you cant sell them to the ladies" then you take the ladies money, plus 5 bucks, and buy the item yourself. theres not much they can do about that. either way dont be that blatent about it next time. its not a bad idea though, 20 rainchecks and you got 100 bucks.

I don't know if there's a law against it, but morally, it's the same as stealing -- and you know it, dude. I think you got off easy, because if I were the manager, I would have called the cops and pressed charges against you anyway.

Don't know if you could be arrested but you darn sure could be barred from the store. Wouldn't you call this scalping? You are pretty slippery and I shudder to think of what you come up with for future endeavers. You may even scam you're way DOWN to 3 hots & a cot!!

You are a smart business man. I don't think you can be punished for this.

What state are you in? That may make a difference to the correct answer.

But whereever you are, it is just rude and obnoxious to do this in the freakin' store. They can kick you out of there and ban you from the premises.

Definitely a scumball move, taking multiple rain checks for free, knowing you aren't going to use them, then selling them to customers.

I couldn't tell you if they are illegal without a lot more info, though.
