I have a HP Photosmart E317 digital camera.I just went on vacation with my family and it was my 8 month old daughters first trip .She was premie and has not left the house but for this trip so it meant a lot to us.Came home to download pics and within 3 seconds it locked up!! I changed batteries, I tried everything and nothing.The green power light will come on but nothing else works not the screen I can't even view the pics nothing and the only way to cut it off is to remove the batteries.These pics mean a lot to me and HP said too bad and not under warranty any longer.Just want my pics any suggestions??Live in small town no place to take it try to get it worked on so not sure what to do!!! SO UPSET!!! you know i think i had the same problem with my hp 435. You downloaded this driver that you got with the camera, didn't you? There is some bug in the driver I think, it would never work well for me. I had to remove the batteries just like in your case.
You know, if you have Windows xp you don't need the driver. Uninstall it, and just plug in your camera and your pc will see it as new hardware and you will be prompted to transfer the pictures to your pc. When i didn't know about it i reinstalled the driver, and it worked well again for some time... so if you are not on windows xp try to remove the hp driver first and install it again.

it can upload/download your camera to your PC.
It can Edit , organise and Share you picture and small video clips.
you can make your ablum with picasa very easy.
It's very easy to use and is free, just like Google
