We have purchased a Sony camcorder and digital camera. We do not want to ruin them charging their batteries for our trip. Is there something special we need in Scotland? VERY IMPORTANT - which country do you live in
In Scotland the standard voltage is 240 Volts AC - if you are from a country like America this is twice your mains value.
Look very carefully at the name plate on the charger and in particular at the "Input Voltage" - if it says something like "110 - 240 Volts" then you can safely plug it in in Scotland, BUT if it only says "110 Volts" you must go to a local electrical store in your home country and ask for a "240 volt to 110 volt transformer.
But that is not the only problem - in Scotland and the whole of the UK we use a power outlet which has three flat pins arranged in a triangular pattern - so you will also need a mechanical adapter to plug into our sockets so that you can plug your charger into it .
You need something which looks like this :-

It is possible to get an adapter that combines the mechanical adapter with the transformer if you require one - again your local electrical stre will almost certainly be able to help you |
