Debit and battery rechargers in England?

I'm going to England next summer with Pathfinders, and I was wondering about two things.
1) How does debit work in England? I'd feel alot safer using my debit card, but do ATM's ect. in England work with Canadian debit cards?
2) Bringing like, 10 disposable camera's would be soooo expensive to get developed, and would take up so much room, so I was just going to bring my digital (it holds 340 pictures). Would I need an appliance converter for England plugs, to recharge the batteries? How much would one cost in Canada/England? Would stocking up on batteries be a better option?
Thanks!!

My bank is a credit union.

You're debit card will work as long it is something universal like Maestro/Switch, it shouldnt be a problem.

You will need a plug adaptor, and possibly a converter since the voltage in UK is 240V

visit www.siliconsolar.com ...we offer a variety of solar battery chargers.....depends what your budget is - there are many!.......Id love to help out. You can place order online and enter sales code ......chirsine. Once I see the order pop up I will process it personally. Have a great trip!

The debit cards work they would anywhere else. There is no difference. You will might be charged the normal atm fee and whatever regular bank charges are.

As for the battery charger, you just need a converter. Wal-mart sells world-wide converters and they are pretty cheap. i would just buy that instead of stocking up on disposable cameras and batteries. Developing all those cameras can be quite expensive. Save your money and just buy a converter.

I don't know the plug or voltage used in Canada, but in the UK we use three pin plugs and 240V from the three pin socket.

Other types of plug and voltages exist, but are for specialised purposes, and are rarely found in the home, office or hotel room.

If your card has a Maestro or Cirrus symbol. It might work at merchant that take Maestro. Your bank can tell if the card will work in England. You would choose current or chequing account and then enter your pin. Take your passport & id tell them you are a traveler and you card may not work. This way you may not get suspicious looks if you transaction get denied. U.S. merchants have learned that if the transaction is denied or the pin show invalid. This does not mean the person is a crook .

$1.00 GBP = 2.22976 CAD plus fees.

It may be cheaper to let the merchant do dynamic currency conversion. Other say it cost more. Either way your bank will still charge you a fee. These fees may not show until your statement is printed.

Notify your bank when you are going to England, So it will have a less chance of being blocked. Take your banks phone numbers in case you have a problem using the card.
