Are lithium batteries better than rechargable?

I was shopping for a digital camera and I went for the rechargable batteries. The salesguy told me Lithium was better but gave no real explanation why. Do I want to spend money buying Lithium batteries all the time?

Hello? I know Lithium Ion are rechargable. He wasn't trying to sell a Lithium Ion battery. It was Lithium batteries that looked like the alkaline ones.

the lithium ones are stronger and hole more charge longer

the rechargeable ones hold like 400 charges

way cheaper and way better for the environment

I think rechargables are better.

Lithiums are rehargeable.

rechargable batteries can be a real pain, so i use Lithium. Rechargeable batteries never charge up to the same amout of energy the first time, and it takes a while to charge. I use lithium, and it works pretti good. try it and see the results! only you can tell which one is best!

Lithium batteries *are* rechargeable. It's just that they have more stamina. (My laptop and my PDA and my phone all have "Lithium-Ion" batteries.)

Depends on what the camera is designed to take. Lithium batteries are usually very small discs that are used in watches a lot.
Rechargeable batteries are usualy Nickel-Cadmium, and are in a format not unlike regular Alkalines.
In my experience, you usually have no choice but to go with whatever the manufacturer of the device determined to be the proper battery.

lithium batteries ARE rechargeable.
at least if he tried to sell you Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) batteries. they are in fact better than the more common Nickle-Metalhydride (NiMh) Batteries, because they can be recharged whenever you want, and allow for MUCH faster charge times too. NiMh-Batteries should only be recharged when they are nearly empty, to prevent the so called memory effect, that reduces the battery's capacity over time. But that is less critical nowadays then it was back in the old Nickle-Cadmium (NiCd) Battery days... still, it is a factor.
Li-Ion batteries are mostly used in cell phones and cameras, but i was not aware that they are produced in standard battery sizes.
My guess is the salesguy had no idea what he was talking about.

if there are Li-Ion batteries in standard sizes however, go for them.
