Fujifilm FinePix S5700 says No to lithium batteries?

I have just bought a Fujifilm FinePix S5700 digital camera and some expensive AA lithium batteries to go with it. After reading the manual i found lithium batteries are not to be used with this camera, as it can cause 'fluid leakage or overheating'.

Has anyone used lithium batteries on this type pf camera? Is it possible that the resctriction on lithium batteries is just another silly safety rule?

Please do reply only if you know the answer. I really wouldnt like to fry my camera because someone thinks it would be funny.

thanks

any types of battery can leak if damaged or too old. i think it's ok to use lithium batteries in your camera. i don't think lithium batteries last very long. get some NiMH rechargeable batteries. they have higher capacity and in long term they are cheaper

just buy rechargeables
