Had problem w/ digital camera rechargeable batteries (AA)
getting a "set" and not lasting long after a full recharge. Got bright (literally) idea of getting two inexpensive penlight flashlights that took one AA battery each. I put the flat batteries in them, turned them on and put them in a cupboard and ignored them for several hours. Yes, they will last that long. When they are finally dead, take them out, recharge them, and you'll be surprised at the new life in them. I've been doing this for a year now, no signs yet of them being ready for retirement. My daughter thought I was nuts and "dumped" her "useless" rechargeables on me. She's kicking herself for not trying it now! No fancy flashlights or uses different sizes of batteries. Just a space for one battery, an on/off switch and a bulb does the job. I also remove them from my camera when I'm done but I also put a cheap set in to keep date/time active. OH YEAH, MY QUESTION. Any other battery recharge ideas? Thanks. Good job. I'll just point out that only NiCad batteries have a memory problem. NiMH and Li-Ion do not get this problem and do not need to be drained in this fashion. In fact, they will last longer if you recharge them promptly after use.
BTW, NiCad's are good for about 1,000 charge/discharge cycles if used properly. NiMH and Li-Ion and good for between 300 to 500 charge/discharge cycles. |
