I'm looking into purchasing a digital camera and have narrowed it down to two cameras. Any thougths?

Sony Cyber-shot DSC W70 - 7.2 megapixels for $279 and the Nikon Cookpix L6 6.0 mexapixels for $199. The one thing I do not like about the Nikon is that it runs on double A batteries. Any suggestions?

These two cameras are equivalent, for the most part. The best way to decide between the two is to go down to a store like Circuit City (which leaves the cameras out connected to a power cord) and try them out to see which you like better.

sony cybershot is the best there is..

go with the sony cyber

Our office has the Nikon and it is a good camera for what we need it for. It really depends upon what you are using it for, just basic or serious photography.

I have a Canon, and that is good. Canon probably have a camera in your price range.

My general advice would be to get a camera from a goof maker of optical systems, so of the two you mention, Nikon is probably better as they make lenses. I would also look for a camera that runs on Lithium ion rechargable batteries.

Well the sony is more expensive but is so worth it. I have it and it takes wonderful pictures. A friend of my has a nikon and it die after 3 weeks. I really don't recomended buying one. Other good cameras are cannon and casio. But the're a bit more expensive. Check in yahoo technology for more cameras and there prices. Hopes it helps!!!

I just got a new camera and the thing I love about it is that it plugs in to charge, like a mobile phone. Sony make good gear, I would avoid the one with aa batteries.

Well you can ALWAYS buy a charger and NIMh battery set for the Nikon.....about $20.00 investment. It will give you a good days worth of picture taking with NiMh batteries.....

Do not buy Nicads.....they are worthless on cameras.

Sony has always built a good camera, and the best way to make this decision BETWEEN the 2.....check for local Service, if not available then CHECK for factory service AND the Preset FEE!!

You'll drop it....you'll break it....some kid will pee in it....and you'll WANT service! (I've actually had a kid pee in it....LOL)

Does either have a viewfinder? You know the little window you look through. There are times the lcd screen are useless.
The nice thing about the aa batteries is if you are away from an outlet and the batteries go dead is you can always buy aa batteries you may have to wait hours to recharge.
How about size. You are more likely to have it with you if it is amaller

Hello,

Judging from specs alone, Sony SOUNDS it BIT better because of its slightly faster lens, higher resolution and the fact that it does have a 3x optical zoom and not digital zoom, which you'd want to stay away from. On the other hand, Nikon has a better reputation for it's lenses. I shoot Nikon professionally and I love their lenses. After all, your camera is only as good as the lens it's got! All in all, YOU have to know whats more important for yourself .(price vs quality, etc.) The Sony lacks a lot of the manual controls like shutter priority, if your more advanced. Another thing I find with Sony is that they use their Memory Stick storage media which is a bit harder to find than the usual flash cards (SD, XD and the like) that you'd be able to pick up cheaply at your local Costco. I'd say, go with Nikon! You can always get rechargable batteries and they do have new AA's that last a lot longer than the normal ones. You'll always be able to find AA batteries where ever you are.

The one problem you have with the Nikon is one feature I like. No matter where you are in the world, you can buy new batteries. Many times when someone is traveling, they forget to take their camera recharger. What do you do then? Try to find a place that has the exact charger? Good luck.......

Donna, for what you're paying, a few dollars more will get you better options and a far more versatile lens within the Canon brand; try checking out the Canon Powershot S3iS at: http://www.buyersedge.com/

But, if compact is what you really want... well, just look at it and decide, OK? Good luck and best wishes (personally, I use Nikon and prefer them for their ruggedness but I do not use point and shoot cameras).

It looks like the Sony has it all over the Nikon in this comparison, but it sells for $100 more, so this is no surprise.

The Sony has a optical viewfinder and that makes a huge difference to me, also. I'm going to have to write an op-ed against doing away with the "real" viewfinders...
