How does one bring a digital camera when traveling overseas?

the battery needs to be plugged in to get charged

Your battery charger may be able to adapt the the different voltages overseas, so you may need only to purchase a set of adapter plugs -- so that you can plug it in.

Otherwise you'll need to get an adapter, basically a step down transformer, so that you can plug your charger into the higher voltage service.

Check with your travel agent or check with a travel store or your local camera store and see what they recommend for the countries you're visiting.

Your travel agent should be able to tell you what adapters to buy. If memory serves, European countries use 220V household current while the USA uses 110V.

I carry mine in a backpack and ALWAYS carry it on the plane.

All camera chargers are designed for 120~220v. All you will need is a set of $20 adapters.

When I travel my camera bag is my carry-on, I don't trust those $10/$12 per hour baggage handlers..NO WAY! Contact your local photo dealer and ask about your battery charger..ASAP because you don't want to burn out your camera's electronics.
