Recommended 'Best' Digital Camera?

I already own a Kodak Easyshare 310 with the printing dock and I am very unhappy with this product I have not only sent the camera in but the printing dock as well. After taking a picture - upon reviewing it - it is fuzzy and unclear - even when taking the picture the quality of the view on the LCD is not visible. The batteries seem to run out EXTREMELY fast on this camera.

I will be shopping for one in the next few weeks.... I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND that picking a camera is a personal reflection of my needs (features). I am not asking for you to choose one for me but rather suggestions of possible products.....

I am not really worried about price (not that I can afford one of the best) Zoom is important and the LCD which I view it in order to take and review is important to me (I enjoy the bigger LCDs).

I already have a Kodak picture guard 128 MB memory card for the Kodak - so hopefully I can use that memory card in the new camera.

I want the best for my dollar.

Printing dock is not a necessary for me - I would just like a digital camera with go results on a large size LCD and where the batteries don't run dead instantly with good zoom capabilities.

I dont want to talk you out of getting a new camera, but I want to point out a few things just because my worry is you will be equally unhappy with your new one. Your camera has I think a 5X digital zoom.

Digital zoom is not something you want to use. All it does is crop into your image and then interpolates pixels to make up the size. You can do this better yourself in an image editing program. If you use this feature on a camera you are going to get a fuzzy picture when you enlarge the image. Because you are really not zooming in, you are letting your camera imagine what it would look like zoomed in.

If you find zoom very important, go for a higher optical zoom. Even a 3 or 4 megapixel camera with a 5-10 X optical zoom will take great pictures. Go for a higher optical zoom and what i do on my camera(10X optical) is disable the digital option so I dont accidentally go into it.

Battery life - if you are using regular alkaline batteries, you will NEVER get a great life out of them. Alkaline batteries are great for convenience if you are out and your batteries die as a quick fix, but they are not intended for digital cameras. what you want to get rechargable NiMH batteries. They are intended for cameras and will give you the most life.

Another factor to think about is the type of digital memory you use. you are going to want a card larger than 128 (assuming you get even a 4mp camera, you will get maybe 50-60 pictures on the card you currently have. Go for a camera that takes an SD card, not only are they the most popular but you can get a one gig card for about 25 bucks on sale, and if you get one with a usb converter (looks like a little key chain) you can load your pictures anywhere without installing software. I find it so convenient, i didn't even bother loading my camera program on my new computer.

How many megapixels do you need? Keep in mind a 4 MP camera will take a picture that is on par with a 35mm camera when it is an 8x10 size. since i highly doubt you are going to be needing wall size pics anything beyond a 4MP camera is just icing on the cake.

Hope this helps a bit.

Try a Sony digital camera. I've had two of those cameras and they're pretty good as far as picture quality goes. The two Sony cameras I had came with rechargeable AA batteries and a battery charger, but could also use standard AA batteries if the rechargeables weren't available. They use memory sticks for storage - so the existing Kodak card that you have wouldn't work, but 128mb isn't that much for modern cameras, so you'd probably be better off getting a new memory stick anyways when you get a new camera.

Check out the Canon Powershot A640, I've had mine about 6 months now and love it, the picture quality is amazing it has 21 shooting modes, 10.0 mega pixels and is pretty simple to use, there are a ton of extra's that you can set it up with as you need to.

You need to get rechargeable NiMH AA batteries to get the longest life; disposable alkalines are not designed for digital cameras and will die quickly.

If your pictures are fuzzy and unclear, I'd be willing to bet that you're using digital zoom. That camera is designed to have 1 fixed focal length, so don't use the digital zoom and instead walk closer or further back to "zoom with your feet." Also, your current camera is "fixed focus" that is, it doesn't autofocus, but just has one focus point to try to capture everything. So don't put people too close to the camera.

Now for your new digital--at the moment, I am recommending the Canon A570 IS. It's under $200, 7 megapixels, 4x zoom, big LCD, and it has image stabilization. It uses SD memory, just like your current camera. It is much higher quality than your current camera and you'll be a lot happier.

Wow. Honestly, I think you're in the market for "new everything" This is not meant to be sarcastic at all. There's always a need to get something that you want to use and enjoy... personal preference is important as well. If you really want to understand and get a better feel for a specific camera, you may want to try going to www.dpreview.com for more advice. These guys broke me in several years ago and I've even done reviews for them since then. The site is for nothing but digital cameras and reviews. each camera you look at has a drop down box reviewing the specifics... if you go to the bottom o fthe list you get whats called the "conclusion" this is where you get your pros and cons to help you decide. I wish you the best of luck searching! Have fun doing it~

try this one, it basically meet ur need.

alternatively, u can read this General Guide for Buying Digital Camera, maybe it will help u decide which one to choose.

I think the best for you would be the Kodak EasyShare Z612, list price $230 but it might be less than that by now. Weighs 12 oz, it's an excellent camera and has a good LCD screen (2.4'' diagonal)... any bigger and you may not find a camera as good as this one, and the biggest zoom a camera of that size can take (12x).
