I want to buy a digital camera. What's the best deal around at the moment?I have roughly 拢150 to spend!?

The camera is a gift for my girlfriend. I haven't got a clue! Needs to be at least 7 megapixel, have a good battery life (what's best AA batteries or Li-ion?!!) and relatively light and compact!!

Canon Ixus 70.
This has a traditional optical viewfinder which is rare in compact cameras but incredibly useful for taking photos in bright light when a 'screen' can hardly be seen. Also, you don't have to use the screen as a viewfinder unless you want to. Switching it off saves a huge ammount of battery life.
You may expect over 100 shots per charge of the LiOn battery.
Do not buy a camera that uses AAA batteries. They don't have anywhere near the life of a dedicated LiOn battery and will fail at just the wrong moment.

It has 3x optical zoom, which is handy and not prone to camera shake. Please ignore digital zoom on any camera. They only work by 'fuzzing' the picture and you can do a better job on your pc.

Canon use SD cards for storage which is now practically the Universal Standard so you're not stuck with dedicated and costly Sony sticks and suchlike.

I suggest that you buy a spare battery (keep it charged) and spare SD card with your camera so your girlfriend isn't 'caught short'. These things can store over 250 pics on a 2GB card so it's easy to forget that will fill up at just the wrong moment.

Amazon are doing a Very good deal on this camera at the moment if you're quick (see the link below).

vivitar 7 mp great battery life nice n light easy to use, li-on batteries i find last longer.

UM...

li-ion is better bettery

and kodak easyshare cameras are good
i have the m883 but its 3 megapixal
HD though
check out any best buy by your house

It's all a matter of preference - I use a Samsung - about 拢79 for 6 million pixels (use the balance to buy a 2gig SD card or the like) - 拢129 - 拢140 for a higher resolution. Lightweight and practical. All round good camera. Picture quality excellent -

The Sony DSC-W55 is pretty good and has 7.2mp.( Li-ion rechargeable.) It costs 拢139.89 at PC World.. See link

6 Mp is enough for enlargements up to A3 size! Do not be misled by the consumer obsession with megapixels. Too many loses clarity. Fuji still has the best processor in the business. You can get the F31fd with Li-ion battery, a 1g SD card and leather case for your money. This holds about 300 shots a go. PC software is included. Or you could pay up to 拢100 more for it's successors just for more pixels. I had the money for any compact I wanted. I chose the F31fd and leave the SLR at home for general work. Views or small flowers no problem and exceptionally good for indoor flash.
