My digital camera shuts off when I touch the part over the batteries.?

This is a real problem because it's hard to hold it another way, any suggestions?

Put a little piece of cardboard in there to hold the batteries so they cannot move, that might make better contact with the metal connectors. Let me know if it helps.

Just make sure that the compartment cover closes completely. Also swab the contacts (under the cover and at the bottom of the compartment) with a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol. This will make sure that there's no corrosion or other contaminents on the metal. If you do detect something there that will not come off with alcohol, then use whatever you have handy (flat screwdrivers usually work pretty well for this task).

Don't touch it under any circumstances. It's dangerous.

Look it over and try to determine what is loose in the battery compartment. It could even be a loose solder joint on the battery contacts.
