What would be my best choice for a digital camera.
(I will mainly be shooting outdoors.)
-Less than $200.
-4-6 Megapixels
-Fast(er) Shutter Speed
-Easy use
-Available from stores (not neccessarily online)
-Runs off disposable batteries See? Here's a guy who prefers not to shop on-line.
I think the camera in your price range is the Canon Powershot A530. It has been on sale at numberous big box stores below $130. That's a good price on a good camera. The A530 was selling for $180 not too long ago. I've recommended this camera within my own family, so I'll be living with the results of this recommendation right along with you. You can use the rest of your budget to buy a decent memory card.
The Canon Powershot A540 is the big brother to this excellent camera and it has reviewed quite well, also. I have seen it selling for $170 this season in all the usual places.

Many stores have the A540 for $170. Add a decent memory card and you're still under budget.
Canon just came out with the A550, which I can only assume is "better," but I don't know the price. I saw one in WalMart, so I know it's actually on the shelves by now.
As far as batteries, these cameras all use "AA" batteries. You can buy rechargeable batteries, but I can see the good sense in getting a camera that can use batteries you can buy in any mom and pop grocery or the 7-11 in a pinch. If you do not use rechargeable batteries, though, try to get Energizer e2 LITHIUM batteries (or the Duracell equivalent) and you will get much better battery performance. They cost twice as much, but last four times as long. This statement is based on my son's experience using both brands in his Canon A630. Thanks and enjoy your new camera! Report It
You can't run digital cameras with disposable batteries. You have to get good batteries. i like the Kodak easy share, I am just beginning to use it but it is fun. Well my friend.. good news for you!!!
For a little less than $200 you will be able to geT a 7 mpix camera as:
SONY DSC-W70 Cybershot
Olympus Stylus 710
Nikon Coolpix L5
Pentax Optio S7
Canon Powershot A550
What you dont want is disposable batteries, since they..
1st are expensive and
2nd they give you a fraction of the power and rechargable capabilities of the internal ones.
It is quite common to have between 250 and 400 shots with the internal LIoN ones, and you still can buy a spare one, so you switch between them. A common carbon battery set will give you about 30 shots , and a good set of alkalines go for 100 or so..
Conclusion.. it is much better the internal LiOn battery that usually give you 18 months life expectancy easily, even charging then EVERY SINGLE day!!!
Voice of experience. go for the canon powershot series.
u will get a model satisfying ur specs there. The sony ones might have a price advantage to canon ones but I have always felt that the canon gives a better picture output under same light conditions. bhphotovideo.com or amazon.com would be a good place to hk out best prices and order online if reqd |
