I personally love the Kodak Easy Share line, they have them starting at 99$ and going up to around 500.....they are very light weight, but most of all they are not very high tech. They are super easy to use. I would recommend them to anyone for any occasion! The pictures always come out looking professional. I have had mine going on 4 years and it's still going strong!

There are a lot of great cameras on the market these days in all different price ranges. Which one is 'best' all depends on your desires and needs.

they ALL now have the capability to shoot video, except the DSLRs.

For a compact camera that lasts a really long time on it's own internal battery, I think the top one is the Fuji F30/F31fd. It can go 580 shots between charges. It also has an excellent movie mode which works better in low light situations than any other.

If you take a lot of video- you may want a camera with image stabilization built in so that it masks your hand shake a bit. You could look at the Panasonics (such as their FX series), which also come with a great 28mm wide angle zoom lens made by Leica. Or, for a bit more, the Canon SD700IS/sd800IS cameras. But- there are others.

Go for a Fujifilm Finepix F30 or a F31. The only difference between the models is that the F31 has face detection technology but that doesn't make much difference.

The battery life goes on forever plus it takes superb low light pics as well as ones in normal light plus the in built movie capture is great as well. It takes 6mp snaps which is enough if you want to print.

Go to Amazon and you can pick up an F30 for a snip at 拢138. A bargain. I've had one for 5 months and its been brilliant.

I would recommend a quality brand, such as Canon. Either the Powershot A630 (8MP) or A640 (10MP).
They are almost identical except for the A640 having 2 extra megapixels and a different body colour.
They have full manual controls if you need them and feature the very handy, vari-angle (flip out & twist) LCD.
They both use AA sized batteries, which is very useful because you can use rechargeables or any other good AA size battery (preferably Lithium). When using 2500mAh rechargeable NiMH batteries you will get up to 500 shots, which is excellent.

Canon cameras also feature some of the best quality 'movie mode' available. But, movies take up a lot of card space. A 1GB card will allow only 8 minutes of high quality movies, so make sure you keep your movies to a minimum or buy an extra large card or two (depending on how long your holiday is).
You will need a high speed card for best performance (something like Sandisk Extreme III is very fast and highly recommended).

If you want an ultra compact camera, then look at one of Canon's excellent SD models. They use smaller lithium batteries (which are supplied), but don't provide as long a life, so you will need to recharge them more often.
Or if you prefer a more budget option, but still want very good quality photos, then look at either the new Canon A560 (7MP)or the A570 IS (7MP and image stabilizer). Both use AA sized batteries.
good luck...

You may wish to consider the underestimated Samsung cameras. I have a D103, only 拢130 at currys (UK).

Features include:

10.1 megapixel
Night shot (long exposures)
Tripod compatible
Great flash
Movie mode
As well as loads of other modes I can't be bothered typing.

I love this camera, glad I bought it. Everyone gives me great comments when they see my photos.
