So I was reading a summary for a digital camera, and I have a question.
It said, "Powered by two AA batteries, the A830 even has SD/SDHC memory card slot expandable up to an amazing 4 gigabytes."
Does this mean I *CAN* put a 4 GB SD/SDHC memory card in it? but not anything higher, right?? Correct. Since 4gb is about the largest card you can find right now, the camera isn't compatible with anything larger than that.
One thing to consider. Since 4gb cards are still new they also cost a lot more than other cards. While the price of smaller cards are coming down, the price of the newer, larger cards are still very high. Because of this, I would recommend getting several smaller cards than one larger card, for a few reasons.
1- The cost is going to be lower. SD cards are very inexpensive, it is not uncommon to see 1gb cards for $15 and sometimes lower. So definitely look into your different options. You may find a good deal, or be looking into another company that is a little different.
2- I personally prefer to have a few smaller cards rather than one larger card. Anytime you have a small, electronic device it becomes very easy for that card to get lost, broken, etc. If you didn't have a chance to back up the photos on that card before it was lost or broken, you would lose all of them. If you have one card all your pictures would be gone, but if you had 3 or 4 cards with the same amount of pictures you would still have the majority of the photos on the other cards. While you wouldn't be happy to lose the pictures, it would be a lot easier to lose some of them than all of them... I was on a cruise recently and the girl that sat at my dinner table lost all of her pictures that were on one memory card (they think the x-ray machine may have done it) Had she used more than one card she would have likely still had most of her pictures.
Good luck with your new camera!! Yes that's right, but 4 gigabites would hold an amazing amount of photographs. Why would you want something with greater capacity? Yes, that's correct.
When a new digital camera comes out, it should be able to take the largest card they make for it AT THAT TIME. Now, as newer and larger memory cards come out, that same camera usually won't be able to recognize them. That's just the nature of the beast.. you are correct You wouldn't want something bigger than 4 gig anyway. You'd just end up getting lost as to what was on the card. You'd be better off just investing in another card if you wanted more than 4 gb. Yes, but that doesn't mean that you can only take 4GB of pictures. Just buy more than one memory card. |
