What's a good digital camera that's not too expensive?

I want to buy a digital camera which has good reviews for around $500. I don't know much about cameras but found some reputable brands going for good prices at http://www.nimisis.com/halfpricebargains... The digital camera I have now goes through batteries very quickly, is there a camera out there that won't do this? Also, my camera can't take pictures in motion very well, I'd like one that can. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Deffenatly get a camera that charges. I have one that uses batteries and eventually the cost of the batteries is going to be more then the cost of the camera.

I purchased a Canon PowerShot S3 IS last year and love it.

It uses four AA batteries but the batteries last quite awhile. The next ones I'm using are the newer Energizer Lithium batteries. These are suppose to last 7 times longer. The newer Digitals seem to not use batteries as fast. I was hesitant about getting a camera that used regular batteries as I knew in the past they used batteries quickly. My two previous cameras had rechargeable batteries... but I have liked this one just fine.

Lots of digital cameras eat batteries for breakfast. We solved this by getting several sets of NiMH rechargable batteries. $29 for 3-4 pairs of batteries and a charger is a pretty good deal, compared to buying an entirely new camera. After 3-4 charging cycles, they paid for themselves.

The only downside so far is that they don't seem to hold a full charge for a long while, so if I know I'm going to need the camera, I'll through all the batteries into the charger a day beforehand.

Do yourself a favor and go to Best Buy and pick up the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T100. This has to be the nicest camera I have seen yet and extremely affordable. Features on the camera are 8.1 Mega Pixels, 5x optical zoom, Super Steady shot (this would be good for pics taken in motion), High Sensitivity ISO 3200. Basically, for a small digital camera, you take pictures in FULL HIGH DEFINITION. The camera also has a feature called face detection. If you are taking a picture of someone, and they are moving around, a little box on the LCD screen follows the face no matter where they go. ITS WILD. I picked one up for myself and one for my sister last week and paid $400.00 each. Make sure you buy the warranty for 3 or 4 years. If you accidentally drop it or get it wet, take it right back to Best Buy and they give you a brand new one. I am going back there today because this camera is on sale now for $350.00 because of Mothers Day. Like I said, you have to go and see it for yourself. Last thing is the rechargeable battery. I used the camera last weekend and took about 200 pics and the battery has only dropped down one notch. Good Luck with finding a camera.
