Looking to upgrade my digital camera?

I currently have a digital camera I bought for $99 at the source a couple years ago. I can't remember the name off the top of my head. It is only 3.1 mega pixels, the zoom isn't very good, the portrait and landscape works backwards for some reason. I can only take 3-5 pictures with the flash before it is draining the batteries, and yes I use rechargable batteries. I am looking for a new camera, something better but not going to break the bank as I have a child, a small income and a baby on the way. I want my hubby to be able to record the delivery of this baby. We didn't have a camera when our son was born, plus our minds were elsewhere at the time. I was looking at a fujifilm finepix A800 in the wal-mart flyer today. At $149.99 for the camera, charger and batteries, it is at the high end of my current price range, but I don't know much about camera's and my hubby is too into his game at the moment to aide me with this.

I don't like my current camera as it seems to have a delay in taking the actual picture so movement pictures are almost out of the question because I haven't conquered the science of figuring out that slight movement to catch up with when the picture will actually be taken. Also it seems that I need a whole lot of light if indoors to do either video or photo. I am just not satisfied anymore. I was hoping to find another camers that uses SD cards as I just bought 2 new ones last month to take on vacation. I got great pictures and video, but on a small budget I will still feel like I am throwing away my money if I can't use these new cards anymore on a new camera. This new camera I was looking at takes XD cards, which are a little more expensive, but if I can go buy 1 bigger card it would be worth the money. My current camera doesn't accept SD cards larger than 512.
Suggestions are welcome. I am in Ontario and don't drive so I am only looking for something I can get locally.

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on.......

The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.

I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions

That is a good little camera.

You need to be aware that it does not use the standard SD memory card that over 80% of the compact digital camera use. It uses a xD memory card used only by Olympus and some Fujifilm cameras.

If you can find a camera just like the Fujifilm A800, but uses the SD card, you will have more options when in three or four years you want to upgrade your camera again.
