I use Energizer Batteries in my Kodak Digital Camera. That's what the guy from Best Buy recommended. They work great, because those cameras can really drain batteries.

The type and brand of batteries you choose comes down to a couple of factors:

1. the type of camera - DSLR or point and shoot

Most DSLR's come with a rechargable battery made specifically for the camera.

Most point and shooters don't come with batteries. The mythology is that rechargeables are the cheapest route to go. While that may or may not be true, I choose to use the cheapest regular batteries I can find. Ever time I go to use the camera, I put freash batteries in it. Ever time I clear off the memory card on an outing, I put in fresh batteries.

2. how much you use the camera

Whether you use your camera often or just once in a while, you want it to work. Putting a fresh set of batteries in every time you use it makes a big difference. Digital cameras are power hogs. Batteries wlil discharge just sitting in the camera.

Most folks are spontaneous with their camera use - hence the name point and shoot. We don't plan ahead to charge batteries, so thats why I recommend regular batteries. Buy in bulk at Costco, Sam, Walmart, etc. You'll be much happier with your digital camera. Carry a couple of extra sets with you in your camera bag at al times.

If you use you camera a lot you should use anything that's rechargeable. If you don't use it that often I would use just some ordinary batteries like Duracell for example.

In my experience, Energizer Lithium batteries are the best. They seem to last twice as long as any other battery that I have used. I sell on e-bay and take alot of pictures!! However, They are more expensive than regular batteries.

For the most part, all these people are correct (I think... ).
There is one thing I know that seems to not make sense.
Pentax digital cameras that take AA type batteries just DO NOT work well with Ni-MH (nickel metal hydride). It drives me nuts. So many customer's complain about battery drain with these cameras when they use these batteries.
The only type of battery that I've found to be significantly better (10x longer life) is Lithium Ion batteries. They basically look like 2 AA batteries put in a case together, but they only have contacts on one side. They aparently work much better because they actually provide 3 volts whereas 2 AA Ni-MH rechargable batteries only produce (on average) ~ 2.5 volts or so.
I know Pentax's DSLR cameras DO NOT work well with AA type batteries at all. They're marketing/design departments need to work on this. They are loosing customers simply because customer's want their camera to work for more than 2 hours on one set of batteries.
