Why do the batteries in my digital camera even though I don't use it?

It's a cheap camera but if it's off it shouldn't drain batteries? I even bought a memory card thinking that would stop it, but it didn't. I do use the rechargeable type of batteries, would that have anything to do with it?

Well, the circuitry inside probably draws some current even when the unit is off. Digital on-off circuits do not connect directly to the battery, but use a small amount of current so they can detect when the switch is pushed to turn it on.

The rechargeable batteries don't last very long I had some that worked great for about 2 months then they stopped holding a charge no matter how long I charged them. Then someone told me to get Lithum camera batteries and they were the best investment I ever made.

Rechargables start discharging the second you take them out of the charger. That's just how it is.

a memory card has nothing to do with the batteries draining

I have a digital camera also. It's not the cheapest nor the expensive one, but I use regular cheap batteries and it last pretty long. Maybe there is something wrong with the camera or the batteries. Have it checked out.

keep the bateries out u should never keep bateries in any electronic device for a extended period of time

Because even if your camera is "off" it still has power running to keep the date set. I would recommend getting a camera with a lithium battery, it will hold a charge longer even with regular use.

Place the cells out of the camera when not in use coz the batteries r used nd loose there power while not in use i also hv the same prblm bt by doing by this thng my prblm is almost solved try this if it nt works then i will tell sme other method

The memory card won't help with battery life...Some batteries will drain just from non-use. Are they cheap batteries? That might be part of the problem. Best thing you can do is to charge the batteries the day before you plan to use the camera. If there's still a problem, either the batteries are bad, or there's something wrong with the camera.

Keep the batteries in the charger until you need them!

I am not sure but it could have something to do with the internal clock on the camera albeit a small drain it is still a drain on the battery.

Even when it's off, the battery do start to drain as it needs the power to keep the internal clock running, keep everything in the camera in working order even when it's switched off.

Recharge your batteries even if u haven't touched them for a week.
