toys r us You might consider Fugifilm FinePix A500. Takes decent photos, can be bought for $90 to $100 on internet. 5 megapixels. The Fuji camera mentioned by another poster is a good quality camera at a very reasonable price. Any of this type of pocket digital camera will provide good battery life on an ordinary set of "AA" batteries, have a removable memory card, and be relatively straight forward to use.
The one thing they don't offer is being very sturdy. One good drop and you're looking at a cracked LCD or broken lens.
Because of that I might suggest the "Kid Tough Digital Camera" by Fisher-Price. This camera is made for young kids in mind, has a rugged chassis that will withstand drops and spills, and has a control setup that isn't overwhelming for a 7 year old. It also has a removable SD memory card (very easy to find), plugs into a standard USB port, and runs on "AA" batteries.
Granted, it doesn't have the resolution of a true pocket camera (I believe it's around 2megapixels - which is just fine for snapshots), but it's priced right at <$100 and will provide her with the real look and feel of a camera. As she gets older, and if she still shows an interest, you can then move her up to a more advanced camera. |
