Why does my digital camera drain my batteries after a minute or two?

I bought energizer rechargeable 2500mAh batteries and it drains it quickly in minutes. What am I doing wrong here? What can I do on my camera to fix the problem? Please help.

because modern digital camera's give normal batteries a right good kicking, having to power colour LCD screens.... beepy noises when you press the buttons (unless you turn that option off), power the motor for the lens, charge up the electronic widget inside (CCD or CMOS, depending on the camera) that takes the picture, then write it to the memory card, etc.

Get some High capacity NiMH rechargeables........ last MUCH longer, mine usually only need charging once or twice a month (despite taking LOTS of pictures + fiddling around with the camera).

Because you're using regular batteries. You need to use higher capacity batteries. I use Energizer e2 batteries, and they last really well. They cost more, but they last ages.

Normal batteries are useless for digital cams.

Martin Owens is right. However, if all you can afford is regular Batts. Try turning off the view finder and the flash. It won't last as long as you want I'm sure, but it might help a little. I use the titanium or the Lithium Batts for mine.

Digital cameras are "high drain" devices, that is, they suck a lot of power and kill normal alkaline batteries very quickly, like in minutes.

Thus, you need a battery designed for high drain devices.

For disposables batteries, there are some lithium batteries available which may fit your camera.

For rechargeable batteries, there are Nickel Metal Hydride or NiMH batteries which will have a huge capacity and last a lot longer in your camera. When they go dead, you simply recharge them. Initially, a set of batteries and a charger are more expensive than disposables, but pay for themselves after a few recharges. Expect to spend $20 to $30 for a charger and set of batteries; you can spend more if you need a superfast charger or a second set of batteries for backup.

If your camera is already using rechargeables or a specialized rechargeable lithium oxide battery and you're having this problem, then either your battery (or batteries) or your charger is bad.
