My digital camera uses AAA batteries and they don't last long enough what can I do ?

When I use AAA batteries they only last for 2-3 pictures. Should I use NiHM rechargable batteries? Or is there something else I should use? My camera is a G-tec and has 3.2 megapixels.

And is it OK to use rechargeable NiHM batteries with digital cameras that only say alkaline in the manuale ?

Definitely stay away from non-rechargeable alkaline and "heavy duty" batteries. They can't hold up to the power demands of digital cameras.

As a first choice, I'd recommend NiMH batteries. You'll more than get your money back out of them in non-rechargeable batteries you won't have to by, _IF_ you take a lot of pictures and frequently.

However, NiMH batteries tend to "go dead" on their own just sitting around unused in the camera over, say, two or three months. If you use your camera then set it aside for weeks at a time, but want to make sure your camera will will work when you do want to use it again, I suggest lithium batteries. (see source) They take a lot of pictures, and won't go dead just sitting around in an unused camera. However, they tend to get pricey compared with regular batteries, and you could could just about pay for a set of rechargeables for what the lithium batteries cost.

I _DON'T_ recommend nickel-cadmium (NiCd, "nicad") rechargeable batteries. They can't hold up to the demands of digital cameras, either.... I'm not sure if rechargeable alkaline batteries are still available, but stay away form those, too - they tend to refuse to hold a charge after about five recharges, and are thus not very cost effective..

I don't have any financial interest in Energizer batteries or Batterymart, I just did a search on them..

They should last longer. Are they dollar store brand? If so, splurge and get some brand name, even Panasonic. Or go ahead with the rechargables if it's safe.

Now they are making batteries for digital cameras there even recharchable

Definitly go with the rechargeables. They may cost a bit more up front but with every charge you are reducing the overall "cost per battery".

That and think of all of the landfill space you'll be saving by not chuking all of those batteries into the garbage.

Digital cameras are like that- they use a ot of power. Mine has a rechargeable lithium battery that is great- I only need to charge it every few weeks or so. My mum's old camera was like yours- it took AAs but they were re-chargeable so we didn't have to keep buying new ones. They are a good investment.
If you are interested, my camera is a Casio Exilim. It really holds its charge!

i got the rechargeable batteries for mine. its been so nice. the camera holds 4, i got 8 just so i would have spares when the charge ran out on the first set. its been really nice and they seem to last a lot longer than the regular ones.

My camera uses both NiMH and AAA alkaline batteries. Just make sure you can use both by reading your owners manual. I don't see why you couldn't.

Digital cameras require higher mAh ratings than other appliances, so it's normal that ordinary AAA batteries go dead in no time. Look for (rechargeable) batteries that specifically list use for digital cameras.

I am a professional photographer. Yep, I feel your pain.

You need to get the NiMH (nickle metal hydride) batteries and a charger. Get two sets. Charge up one set and put them in your camera. Charge up the second and put them in your camera case in a plastic baggie. On one set put a small mark with a Sharpie so you know which set you have there. When you change out the batteries on the run, drop the used up ones into a plastic baggie. Make sure all the colors match.

The reason I say this is that you do not want to miss a shot. Nothing more frustrating than having your camera malfunction while you have that one group of friends who may never be together again. Right?

When you get home or to the motel room, recharge the ones you used up and are in the baggie.

And welcome to the great group of folks who take photographs! Take each picture as though you were going to be struck blind tomorrow.
