What is the most user friendly digital camera for amateurs with a long battery life?

What is the most user friendly digital camera for amateurs with a long battery life?

The first digital camera I ever bought for myself was the Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ-5. (There are newer models out now.) It's the most user friendly non-SLR I have ever handled. Sony and Canon point-and-shoots require a lot of button toggling and weird symbols whereas the Panasonic had a nice menu and clear, descriptive options. The 12X zoom didn't hurt matters, either. I think the battery lasted for several hours - more than four. You can probably buy a spare.

All the earlier photos on my Deviantart and Flickr were taken using this camera, if you want to take a look.

Some models of the Lumix DMC have manual focus too. Just watch out because the camera's slightly flimsy. Mine had gotten a bit wet and didn't suffer, but it did die when someone threw it (inside a case and my bag) across a room. Huh. I replaced it with my Canon Rebel XT. =)

kodak cameras are always great, and most have really good photo quality
