Why do Li Ion batteries like Sony's NP-BG1 camera battery have three contacts rather than two? Many of the new digital cameras communicate to their batteries (mine counts shots on each battery and % of energy left in each one) and data is collected by the camera should any power surges occure and cause damage to the camera, the manufacturer can use this information for later design changes they may make. |
