I need a new battery for my digital camera. Can I get a higher mAh?

I would like the battery to hold its life longer. Right now, my camera has a dead 3.7V 820mAh lithium-ion battery. I have found batteries with a higher mAh, but am not sure if it is compatible with my camera or if it will even hold a charge longer.

Yes, as long as it's the same size/type battery.
Generally, higher mAh means more use between charges,

Yes you can. Take the battery with you when you go and get the new battery. And always ask questions. The more questions you have the better battery you will get.

What camera do you own? Canon, Nikon and other makers sell batteries from their websites and there is always Adorama and B&H Photo

If you can, find the one that was made buy your camera's manufacturer.

I am surprised your battery has failed so soon. I have some that are over five years old and still working perfectly. Mine are 7.4v, 1500 mAh batteries.

When they are fully discharged, it can take up to four hours to charge them, but this is not unusual.
