Rechargeable duracell batteries.....?

I have rechargeable duracell batteries and they keep dying. I charge them on the charger and when the green light comes on, I put them in my digital camera and after about 5 pictures it says low battery. Ive had them for a little over a year now and they used to last for at least a week or more and now nothing. Do they need to be replaced or is something wrong with my camera?

The batteries are only good for a certain number of recharges. You should replace them.

Not sure if this indicates poor quality from Duracell. I own them too. However, they are rarely used and have not died yet. It is expected that the batteries should be usable for about 500 to 1000 recharges. If you have a faster charger (or a quick charger) the life decreases considerably closer to 500 charges.

There is one another factor. Some cameras are not designed to take rechargeable cells. Make sure yours is not one of them. This is because the rechargeable batteries have 1.2V rating but other one time use batteries have 1.5, 3, 6 and so on type of voltage ratings. It is usually not a problem for most cameras. But you can never tell for sure unless checked against the manufacturer's specifications.

They used to last a week, which means they were good at one time. Now they last for only a very short time. Sounds like they're at the end of their lifespan. If you've done a LOT of recharging over the past year, it's going to eventually use up the lifespan of the batteries. If you're using one of those Fast Charge units, that will use up the lifespan even sooner.

I'm told that you can expect 500 - 1000 charges for AA batteries, but I've never found that to be realistic. I think that's from engineering calculations under best conditions. I've found that it's closer to 200 - 400. If you're charging them daily, then that's about one year. Weekly, though, should last 3 - 4 years.
